Trails and campgrounds reopen for summer
Trails and campgrounds saw 50,358 visitors last year
PALMER -- Three popular trails and campgrounds are reopening for summer in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Trailheads will open this Friday for Matanuska Peak, Lazy Mountain, and Crevasse Moraine. The trails were closed temporarily to dry out.
Bathrooms and trash cans are supplied at the trailheads. Parking permits at trailheads help pay for this service at $3.00 per day or $30.00 for a season pass. Homeowners also received a coupon either for a free season pass in the mail or a free haul to the landfill.
Campgrounds are opening May 18 at the Talkeetna River front, the Matanuska River, and Lake Lucille. Fees are $10.00 per night for camping with no hookups or $15.00 for electric hookups (available only at Mat-River Park).
Those trails and campgrounds saw 50,358 visitors last year.

| | | | | | Anikan aka Annie FOR SALE! | | Anikan aka Annie is a Paint/belgian/shire cross, standing at approimately 16.3 hands. She is about 12 years old. Very well muscled with plenty of mane and tail in excess. She is a dappled palamino with silver mane and tail...shines beautifuly in the summer sun! She has some feathers on her fetlocks. She is an awsome trail horse, with many years of experience. She will ride well by her self or in a group. She is a quick learner and has had some natural horsemanship done with her, which she readily excepts. She disengages her front and hind well (good for flexibility and emergency stops). She is good with her feet, but has not been shod in a couple of years. Her feet are tough on most any ground. She also has some hunting experience, but I haven't hunted with her personaly. She has had some previous foals, and I am told she was a good mother. She is best suited to a intermediate rider who will not let her get away with being rude (aka pushing, walking ahead, not standing well at tie-post; otherwise she will to do it). She stands and leads very well, but is one who will try to "Get-a-way" with being a horse. Reason for selling is that the owner is intimidated by her HUGE size (standing at 5' 4") and would prefer a smaller gelding. I love this horse very much, and want to see her go to a home where they will ride her atleast 3x or so a week, and will spend plenty of time with her that she isn't getting here.
